Review of the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014
Thursday, 02 April 2015In April the Government announced its review of the Building Control (Amendment) Regulations 2014 and requested submissions from members of the public and industry in general. In addition to an overall review of the Regulations, of note in the process, is the particular focus on single dwellings and extensions to existing dwellings and the cost burden to same as a result of the introduction of the Regulations.
Also, and of particular interest for consultants will be the Information Document prepared as part of the process in relation to Professional Liability in the context of the Statute of Limitations and the Building Control Act 1990. The note seeks to assure Consultants that the Regulations do not extend a Consultant’s liability (and further that they may reduce a Consultant’s liability) however it remains to be seen whether such assurances will have the desired result.
The Department aims to report its recommendations, following the review, to the Minister of State no later than 30th June 2014.
We will keep you updated on any developments.
